Galaxy Macau™ to Celebrate Grand Opening Today

(MACAU & HONG KONG, 15 May 2011) – Galaxy Macau is scheduled to open its doors at 5:00pm today, revealing the “New Palace of Asia” to guests from across the region and around the world for the very first time. The Grand Opening ceremonies will be attended by high-ranking local government officials and other VIPs and presided over by Dr. Lui Che Woo, Founder and Chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG, SEHK stock code: 00027), the parent company of the eagerly anticipated property which will be the only integrated destination resort to launch in Macau this year.

Speaking just hours before the opening, Dr. Lui said, “The opening of Galaxy Macau signals a new era for Macau as a world-class leisure destination. As part of the fabric of Macau and an employer of thousands of Macanese, Galaxy Entertainment Group attaches great importance to the growth and evolution of the local tourism industry. We believe Galaxy Macau will help lead this development by introducing impeccable service delivered with ‘World Class, Asian Heart’ along with industry-leading amenities and true resort features. We would like to thank the government and the community, because without their support none of this would have been possible.”

Mr. Francis Lui, Vice Chairman of GEG, said, “the opening of Galaxy Macau is the biggest event in Macau this year, and marks five years of design, planning and construction. Galaxy Macau will bring a lot of game-changers to the market, including three world-class Asian hotel brands, Asian service standards that will make each of our guests feel like royalty, an incredible Southeast Asian-style Grand Resort Deck with a wave pool, man-made beach and Banyan Tree Spa, one of the largest food and beverage offerings in Macau, and so much more. We believe this will draw visitors by giving people the option of a luxurious, convenient weekend getaway, boosting Macau’s image on the Asian and global tourism scenes in the process.”

Galaxy Macau represents a number of firsts:

  • It is the first integrated destination resort in Macau to take an authentically Asian approach to its design, offerings and guest service.
  • It brings together three 5-star, internationally renowned hotel brands with Asian roots together under one roof: Singapore’s Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, Japan’s Okura Hotels and Resorts, and Galaxy Hotel™, the sister property of the Five Star Diamond-winning StarWorld Macau. Both Banyan Tree and Okura are entering Macau for the first time.
  • It is the first property of its type in Macau with true resort features, highlighted by the Southeast Asian-style, 52,000-square-meter Grand Resort Deck, where lush gardens frame the world’s largest skytop wave pool and an expansive white sand beach.
  • The Grand Resort Deck is the site of the first Banyan Tree Spa in the Pearl River Delta, which is also the largest Banyan Tree Spa in the world, with 3,400 square meters of space and 21 treatment rooms.

According to the company, Galaxy Macau’s “World Class, Asian Heart” philosophy will permeate every aspect of the property, and the commitment will extend to dining as well. Recognising that Asian travellers place a great deal of emphasis on food when choosing where to vacation, Galaxy Macau will offer the widest selection of Asian cuisines under one roof in Macau among its more than 50 international outlets.

Other attractions include extensive in-house entertainment across multiple venues, spectacular visual features that are intended to become iconic attractions for the city, and retail boulevards offering a unique shopping experience of Asian as well as international brands.

Coming soon is the ultra-exclusive China Rouge, a hybrid private membership club, performance theatre, bar and restaurant conceptualised by renowned Hong Kong designer Alan Chan to evoke a modern vision of 1930s Shanghai. It is anticipated that China Rouge will instantly become one of the trendiest nightspots in Macau, drawing discerning clientele from around the region. Galaxy Macau will also unveil a 9-screen, 3D, multi-function cinema theatre in the second half of the year. Open to the local community and Galaxy Macau guests, the theatre will be state-of-the-art and the first of its kind in Macau.

Galaxy Macau executives said they anticipate approximately 30,000 to 40,000 visitors will pass through the resort’s doors every day following the property’s opening today.
