Basketball Fever Sweeps GEG Promoting Work-Life Balance through Physical Activities

August 7, 2018 – Committed to raising awareness of the benefits of physical activity among the general public in Macau, Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) supports recreational and sport activities through a variety of initiatives. GEG team members are encouraged to participate in sports to improve their physical wellbeing and maintain a healthy work-life balance. The GEG Basketball Team was crowned champion in the Gaming Employees Basketball Tournament hosted by Gaming Employees Home. Following the tournament was GEG’s 3-on-3 Basketball FUN Games. Whether battling it out on the court or cheering from the sidelines, every team member had a chance to participate in the excitement.

This is GEG’s seventh Gaming Employees Basketball Tournament championship in eight years. GEG Team A won the final match 93 to 81, retaining the championship title for another year. GEG Team B came in 2nd runner up. It was thanks to the GEG Basketball Teams’ efforts and superb skills that GEG achieved such excellent results. However, support and coordination from the players’ colleagues and department heads also played a crucial role in the success. The GEG Basketball Team began intensive training early this year, meeting four times a week for two-hour practices. In order to allow the team to focus on their training, colleagues and department heads coordinated shift-swapping so the players could attend all the practice sessions. GEG Basketball Team Captain Sam Cheong, Senior Manager – Recruitment, said, “The team has turned the pressure of defending its championship title into motivation. The players come from various departments of GEG’s different properties. Without the support from and coordination of the company, the various departments and our colleagues, it would not be possible for the whole team to gather together to practice.”

For the final game of the tournament, Mr. Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer, Macau, GEG, along with other executives, came to cheer on the GEG team. Mr. Kelley brought with him two custom-made basketballs in GEG’s corporate colors—one yellow and one purple. These basketballs symbolize the GEG Basketball Team’s passion for the sport. Mr. Kelley said that he hopes that the team will continue with their training, pushing for even greater successes in the future.

Besides encouraging team members to participate in sporting events hosted by community groups, GEG also organizes internal sports competitions. The GEG-organized 3-on-3 Basketball FUN Games were well-received, with nearly double the enrollment expected. The original plan was to have 16 teams participate in the event. Last Saturday, 29 teams competed in the games. At 9:00 am, more than 160 players lined up for the opening ceremony at the basketball court of the Premier School Affiliated to Hou Kong Middle School. Also attending were Ms. Eileen Lui, Group Director of Human Resources and Administration, GEG; Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of GEG; Mr. Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer, Macau, GEG; and other executives. After the opening tip, the 3-on-3 Basketball FUN Games started. Despite the hot weather, many off-duty team members and family members of the players came to cheer at the games. After a whole day of matches, STARHOOPERS, from StarWorld Hotel Security Department, left with the championship.

GEG continually advocates for healthy work-life balance and hopes that team members will enrich their lives by taking part in physical activities. GEG has organized various sporting events, such as the Interdepartmental Soccer Game, the Snooker Tournament, the Volleyball Friendly Match, the Running Workshop and the Badminton Skill Improvement Workshop. These events were organized taking into consideration the abilities, interests and needs of GEG team members. Going forward, GEG will continue to organize a variety of recreational and sporting activities for its team members.
