Galaxy Entertainment Group won Marathon’s Group Trophy for the seventh time

December 4, 2011 – “2011 Macau Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon”, title sponsored by Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”), kicked off in the early morning of 4th December. This year, participations of GEG team members surged by 30% to reach 385 people. Soaking up the cheers from their fellow colleagues alongside, the enthusiastic runners of GEG churned through the course to take home the Group Trophy for the seventh time. While Shanti Devi Adhikari, from the Security Office of GEG’s flagship, Waldo Casino, delivered strong performance to become the 1st runnerup of “Category-B Female Mini-Marathon”.

6,000 local and overseas athletes, including 385 GEG team members, congregated at the Olympic Sport Center Stadium at 6 am, waiting in anticipation to set off on their marathon journey.

Joined by Mr. Vong Iao Lek, President of Macau Sport Development Board, and Mr. Lam Hin Fu, President of Macau Athletic Association at the starting point, Mr. Francis Lui, Vice Chairman of GEG, kicked off the race with a blast of the horn. Mr. Francis Lui said, “This is the 8th consecutive year for GEG to be the title sponsor of this meaningful sporting event which symbolizes hard work and determination. The Marathon this year has not only received whole-hearted support from GEG and its team members, but it has also drawn unprecedented participation from the public. This certainly reflects that there is a growing interest in sports among local citizens.”

Among the 385 participated team members, 340 of them took part in the Mini Marathon. The team members who did not join the race rendered support through cheering encouragement and passing drinks to their fellow colleagues and other runners as well. Shanti Devi Adhikari from Waldo Casino clocked a time of 31:13 to clinch the 1st runner-up title of “Category-B Female Mini-Marathon”. She said, “Although I was not at my best due to leg injuries, I am very happy to receive an award in the race again. I hope that I will work better next year to achieve a better result.” On the other hand, Mr. Michael Mecca, President & Chief Operating Officer of GEG, joined the race with his wife, Mrs. Sandy Mecca, who finished third in “Category-C Female Mini-Marathon” with a time of 38:01.

In addition to StarWorld Macau, which was already a familiar scenery to frequent marathon runners, Galaxy Macau™, opened in May this year, was added to the race route so that the athletes could see and enjoy while running in close proximity to this magnificent architecture. More than that, the runners were boosted by GEG’s cheering teams and dancers who delivered fantastic performance alongside the route.

Same as previous years, GEG continues to reward the fastest male and female invited athletes, as well as the fastest male and female local athletes with coveted prizes including a one-night stay at Galaxy Hotel™ and a Galaxy Macau Food & Beverage coupon of MOP2,000.
