The Opening Ceremony of the “China - In the Eyes of the Press” Photo Competition Exhibition Showcases Outstanding Artwork from Four Regions

Macau, Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, (September 11, 2014) - The opening ceremony of “China - In the Eyes of the Press” Macau Photo Competition Exhibition was held yesterday at East Square, Galaxy Macau™. The ceremony was attended by a number of guests of honor including Mr. Cheong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Mr. Zhang Xiaoguang, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Education of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Macau SAR, Mr. Feng Tie, Deputy Commissioner of Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Macao SAR, Mr. Ho Iat Seng, President of the Legislative Assembly of Macau, Mr. Chan Chi Ping, Director of Government Information Bureau, Mr. Ma Iao Lai, President of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of GEG, Mr. Liang Jianzhong, Vice Chairman of Guangzhou Journalists' Association, Mr. Liu Weizhong, Executive Chairman of Hong Kong Federation of Journalists, Mr. Lei Pang Chu, President of Associação dos Trabalhadores da Imprensa de Macau and Mr. Lok Bo, Director of Associação dos Trabalhadores da Imprensa de Macau. Over 200 renowned guests, including those in politics and business, celebrities from the arts and culture industry as well as prize-winning photojournalists from across the country, also participated in this event.

In celebration of the 65th National Day of the People’s Republic of China, China Photo Journalist Society, Hong Kong Federation Journalists, Guangzhou Journalists’ Association, Associação dos Trabalhadores da Imprensa de Macau, and Taipei Newspaper Association jointly organized “China - In the Eyes of the Press” Photo Competition. Showcasing outstanding pieces of artwork, the competition aims to feature China’s unique culture and lifestyle through the distinguished professional approach by photojournalists from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

Receiving an enthusiastic response from the journalists, the competition collected more than 2,000 pieces of art from which 65 outstanding entries were chosen to be on display. The photojournalists, with their professional photography techniques, captured China’s colorful yet serene landscapes through the high quality and diversely contemporary submitted artwork. Illustrating the vigorous and high spirits of China, the entry “Watching the Tide” garnered the 1st prize with its distinctive idea of combining the concepts of the static, dynamic, traditional and modern.

Mr. Lei Pang Chu, President of Associação dos Trabalhadores da Imprensa de Macau, Mr. Kwok Yat Ming, Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Federation of Journalists and Mr. Liang Jianzhong, Vice Chairman of Guangzhou Journalists' Association spoke at the opening ceremony. Mr. Lei Pang Chu complimented on the competition saying that it signifies a tribute to the 65th anniversary of the National Day with the rich and meaningful array of outstanding artworks from the four regions. Meanwhile, Mr. Kwok Yat Ming spoke highly of the prize-winning entries, believing that the exhibition would receive enthusiastic responses from the media and public as it did in Hong Kong. Mr. Liang Jianzhong, coupled on the enthusiastic response from Hong Kong and Macau, confidently looks forward to the upcoming exhibition in Guangzhou.
