UA Galaxy Cinemas, Galaxy Square opening on 15 December 2011

25 October 2011 – UA Cinemas and Galaxy Macau™ today announced that the eagerly anticipated UA Galaxy Cinemas – one of Asia’s most luxurious, state-of-the-art facilities, with nine 3D-capable screens and up to 1,000 seats – will open on 15 December 2011. Welcoming resort guests and locals alike, UA Galaxy Cinemas brings an internationalcaliber filmgoing experience to Asia’s most dynamic leisure and tourism destination for the first time. The development also represents UA Cinemas’ first foray into Macau and the latest initiative in Galaxy Macau’s strategy to further diversify Macau’s leisure and tourism scene.

UA Galaxy Cinemas will occupy nearly 16,000 square meters, including the splendorous, 400-seat Grand Theatre with its four exclusive balcony boxes. In addition, four premium Director’s Clubs will feature five-star dining and service, a lounge with wait staff, and selfadjustable reclining sofa seats. Four more theatres bring total capacity to up to 1,000 comfortable theater seats. All nine screens are capable of showing 3D movies to capitalize on the growing trend for ultra-realistic film viewing, and each is equipped for functions such as performances, meetings and business presentations.

UA Galaxy Cinemas is purpose-built to hold world-class, Hollywood-style events and film festivals. During today’s event it was revealed that UA Galaxy Cinemas will host the premiere of award-winning director Tsui Hark’s first 3D film, “The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate 3D”.

It was also announced that Galaxy Square, a multipurpose leisure and entertainment attraction, will open alongside UA Galaxy Cinemas on 15 December 2011. The 2,100- square-meter Galaxy Square has a 19-meter-high atrium that can accommodate a stage and red carpet activities, giant-size LED walls, a state-of-the-art Galaxy Broadcast Studio, and a covered limousine drop-off area at the main entrance. More details about its offerings are due to be released in the coming weeks.

Both developments are located at the HK$16.5 billion Galaxy Macau, known to its 30,000 to 40,000 daily visitors as the “New Palace of Asia”.

A significant feature of UA Galaxy Cinemas is that guests may choose food services that extend well beyond the typical movie experience. Director’s Club guests can enjoy beer, wine and Champagne by the glass. “Movie Menus” can also be specially ordered at the Director’s Clubs, in a variety of styles such as “Macanese”, with traditional favorites like Portuguese egg tarts, pork chop buns and bacalhao dumplings; “Hong Kong”, featuring baked BBQ pork buns, egg tarts with bird’s nest and mini pineapple buns with goose liver pate; and the “Deluxe Canape” set, which includes cured meat from Galaxy Macau’s signature Terrazza restaurant, caviar on blinis, goose liver pate and smoked salmon. To celebrate the 15 December 2011 opening of UA Galaxy Cinemas, Galaxy Macau and UA Cinemas will hold a number of promotions for resort guests and the online community:

  • Visitors to Galaxy Macau who spend at least HK$200 on F&B and retail or stay at Galaxy Hotel™, Hotel Okura Macau and Banyan Tree Macau can receive a lucky draw ticket for a chance to win one of 150 pairs of tickets to “The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate 3D” at UA Galaxy Cinemas. In addition, two Grand Prize winners will receive an exclusive booking at one of UA Galaxy Cinemas’ Director’s Clubs – accommodating up to 18 people per show – along with a Galaxy Hotel stay for three nights and a HK$1,000 F&B voucher.
