GEG Youth Achievement Program Participants Engage in Community Affairs; Encourages New Generation to Contribute to Social Harmony

June 14, 2022 Upholding its philosophy of “what is taken from the community is to be used for the good of the community”, Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) cultivates Macau’s next generation of talent by supporting the all-round development of local youth through a multi-pronged approach. Since 2011, GEG has been co-organizing the GEG Youth Achievement Program (“YAP”) with the Macau Management Association (“MMA”) to provide local youth with the opportunities for self-awareness, career development, and community involvement. To encourage young people to participate in community affairs and fulfill their social responsibilities, recently, GEG arranged YAP participants to various community activities, including the “Emergency Preparedness Talk for Elderly” that GEG co-organized with relevant Macau SAR Government departments for the fourth consecutive year, and a food hampers distribution activity at the Welfare Shop of Macau Holy House of Mercy (“SCMM”) which GEG has supported for the 10th consecutive year. YAP participants and GEG volunteers also visited the Civil Protection Operations Centre to gain a profound understanding of the emergency preparedness. Through the activities, GEG hoped to deepen young peoples’ understanding of the corporate social responsibility of integrated resort operators and to inspire them to offer a hand to the needy and contribute to Macau’s sustainable development.

To equip the elderly with more knowledge on disaster preparedness and heighten their alertness during the typhoon and rainy season, GEG joined hands with the Unitary Police Service, the Public Security Police Force, the Social Welfare Bureau, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, and the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Service (“Peng On Tung”) to co-organize the “Emergency Preparedness Talk for Elderly” for 40 elderly users of Peng On Tung. Accompanied by YAP participants and GEG volunteers, the elderly users were introduced to a number of precautionary measures and safety tips for disaster prevention, including the Civil Protection Law, and the evacuation plans and routes, among others. In addition, YAP participants and GEG volunteers were also invited to deliver “Family Kits” that consist of various necessities to elderly users’ homes so that they can get better prepared for the typhoon season. Through the home visits, GEG hoped to give the young generation a chance to understand the daily needs of the elderly, and to communicate and interact with them. Furthermore, YAP participants and GEG volunteers also visited the Civil Protection Operations Centre. Through watching the “Crystal Fish 2022” video, attending a related seminar and participating in an interactive broadcast simulation experience, the participants learnt the operating principles and warning function of the Civil Protection Operations Centre, and enhanced their safety awareness and coping capability.

Extending its support to SCMM’s Welfare Shop, GEG donated MOP300,000 to support the daily operation of the Welfare Shop. Meanwhile, YAP participants and GEG volunteers also assisted in distributing food hampers containing rice, oil, grain, noodles, biscuits and canned goods to over 370 low-income families. Leaflets of evacuation plans during typhoon period were also delivered to the families to help increase their disaster prevention awareness. Mr. Stephen Man, one of the YAP participants who took part in the activities, said, “Thanks to GEG’s arrangements, I am given the opportunity to broaden horizons on corporate social responsibilities, and on GEG’s unwavering efforts and volunteerism for the Macau community, interact with people with different needs, and learn how to offer appropriate help. These meaningful activities have encouraged me to contribute to the development of the community through practical actions.”

Throughout the years, GEG has been making good use of its resource to promote talent and youth cultivation in Macau through diversified initiatives, including co-organizing the YAP with MMA for 11 consecutive years, which has provided numerous training and career enhancement opportunities for over 3,000 participants aged 18 to 29; title-sponsoring the “GEG Macau Cup – Youth National Education Competition” for 13 consecutive years with over 100,000 participants attended; and title-sponsoring the “GEG Presents: Popular Science Activities in Schools on Chinese Drones” since 2019 to promote the country’s edge-cutting drone technology to 30 local schools. Moving forward, GEG will continue to support the holistic development of the new generation, and fulfil its pledge by extending care across the community to contribute to Macau’s stability.
