April 13, 2020 – Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) has been closely monitoring the situation and contributing to the epidemic control and preventive measures in Mainland China and Macau. To support the development of long term preventive measures against COVID-19, GEG announced an additional donation of MOP75 million through the Galaxy Entertainment Group Foundation (“the Foundation”). The donation was made under the coordination of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR.

Since the beginning of this year, frontline healthcare workers in various parts of Mainland China have been steadfast in saving lives. GEG would like to convey its deepest appreciation for their professionalism and strong sense of responsibility. With the virus gradually under control in Mainland China, scientists and medical specialists have continued to work tirelessly on follow-up research in hopes of containing the virus. Thus, the additional MOP75 million donation by the Foundation aims to provide care for healthcare workers, help with public health promotion and support the medical and scientific research related to the epidemic.

With the virus being effectively controlled in Mainland China by its implementation of various prevention measures, their successful experience serves as a valuable lesson for other countries battling with COVID-19. We hope to further contribute to this fight against the epidemic by subsidizing related institutions and specialists in Mainland China to carry out the relevant scientific and medical research.”

In the last few months, GEG has been working closely with different stakeholders on implementing various initiatives to support the community on preventing COVID-19. To date, GEG has donated over MOP100 million to support the related efforts and subscribed HK$100 million in social bonds. Earlier, under the coordination of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, GEG donated MOP20 million to Hubei Province to help the region beat the epidemic and assist its relief efforts; and donated MOP5 million to support the anti-epidemic measures in the Macau community. Meanwhile, one million masks were also donated to the Macau SAR, Zhuhai City and Hengqin New Area governments while a host of assistances were provided to different social service organizations and schools in Macau. In addition, GEG subscribed HK$100 million for the SMEs themed COVID-19 Impact Alleviation Social Bonds issued by the Bank of China (Macau Branch) in support of local SMEs affected by the epidemic. True to its philosophy of “what is taken from the community is to be used for the good of the community,” GEG will continue to stay in close contact with various stakeholders and work in conjunction with the community to overcome the challenges posed by COVID-19.
