GEG Relaunches U-LEAD Graduate Internship Program for University Graduates

September 2, 2021 – Committed to cultivating local youth, Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) provides young people with a variety of training and career development opportunities. This year, in support of the 2021 internship career experience program organized by the Labor Affairs Bureau (“DSAL”) of the Macau SAR Government for the second year, GEG relaunched the U-LEAD Graduate Internship Program (“U-LEAD”). Offering a three-month integrated resorts internship to university graduates, U-LEAD aims at giving participants the work experiences needed to develop their professional skills, enhance their competiveness, and build a stronger foundation for their future career.

An opening ceremony was held earlier at the ballroom of Banyan Tree Macau in Galaxy Macau™. GEG executives attended the ceremony to welcome the first batch of the U-LEAD participants to the GEG family, as well as to wish them good luck on their internship at the different departments across GEG properties. Since pandemic prevention and control have become part of the new normal, during the ceremony, GEG provided the participants with information related to the pandemic prevention measures implemented across its properties and back-of-house areas, and GEG’s recent initiatives which aimed at promoting the vaccination program, including the two set-ups of the vaccination point at Galaxy Macau, the Vaccine Information Seminars, and the roadshows at its back-of-house areas. In addition, a video was played during the ceremony where several fully vaccinated GEG team members shared their vaccine experience. Through the video, GEG hopes to encourage the participants to support the Macau SAR Government’s call to get vaccinated and help Macau achieve herd immunity.

This year’s U-LEAD continues to provide a variety of internship opportunities across a number of departments, including Hotel Operations, Housekeeping, Marketing and Facilities Management, and others. Integrating comprehensive skills training and professional guidance, U-LEAD will provide up to 200 hours of corporate, departmental and on-the-job training to all participants so that they can enhance their professional skills, accumulate work experiences and obtain a deeper understanding of the operations of large-scale integrated resorts. In addition, last year’s popular “SiFu-support” scheme has also been included in this year’s program and experienced team members or department heads from different departments will continue to serve as “SiFus” (mentors) and provide guidance to the participants so that they can learn more about the operations of respective departments and gain insight into the professional skills and experiences of their mentors.

Prior to U-LEAD’s commencement, GEG co-hosted two open days in cooperation with DSAL and organized a U-LEAD Career Development Day to help interested university graduates learn more about the program and the potential career paths. During the open days, participants were offered a visit to various departments including Hotel Operations, F&B, and Facilities Management at Galaxy Hotel™, and interacted with the related department heads. Participants from last year’s U-LEAD were also invited to share their experiences of working at GEG so that the graduates could know more about GEG’s work environment, corporate culture and development opportunities. Meanwhile, on the Career Development Day, besides providing participants with details of U-LEAD, GEG also engaged them role-plays and discussions with department heads so that they can explore GEG’s career opportunities and get prepared for their future career development.

GEG attaches great importance to local talent cultivation and strives to provide local youth with a variety of professional training and internship opportunities. Through its Galaxy Integrated Resort Internship Program which was incepted in 2008, GEG has provided comprehensive training and integrated resort internship experiences and helped more than 690 tertiary education-level students build a solid foundation for their chosen career. In addition, GEG has been organizing the GEG Youth Achievement Program in conjunction with the Macau Management Association for 10 consecutive years. This annual program has provided upwards of 3,000 participants aged 18 to 29 with a host of activities and training. Moving forward, GEG will continue to support the Macau SAR Government’s talent development policies by cultivating local talents in integrated resort industry and nurturing the next generation of leaders in Macau.
