GEG Holds Team Member Seminar on Macau’s Role in Greater Bay Area

November 12, 2018 – An advocate of the One Belt One Road Initiative and the development of the Greater Bay Area, Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) has long been promoting a better understanding of national development, through a variety of initiatives targeting different sectors of society. Following the opening last month of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, which brings the three cities within one hour’s reach of each other, GEG held a seminar titled Construction of Greater Bay Area and Macau’s Roles and Opportunities last week at Oasis at Galaxy Macau™. Guest speaker Dr. Guo Wanda, Executive Vice President of the China Development Institute, explored with approximately 160 team members at manager level or above Macau’s strategic role as “One Centre, One Platform” in the Greater Bay Area and the emerging opportunities and challenges faced by the city. The seminar saw productive and profound exchanges of insights among GEG team members.

To engage team members more effectively, the seminar consisted of two sessions — the morning session conducted in English, and the afternoon in Mandarin. Ms. Zhang Jianhua, Senior Assistant Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, attended the seminar as special guest. During the seminar, Dr. Guo illuminated the geographic features and the development of the Greater Bay Area. Furthermore, he introduced attendees to the governmental body overseeing the project and its economic impacts. He said that under the “one country, two systems” principle, closer reginal cooperation is enabling Macau, a vital pillar of the Belt and Road Initiative, to achieve its goal of economic diversification and to assist the country in expanding international ties.

Many GEG senior executives also attended the seminar. Among them was Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of GEG, who said in his address that China’s rapid development would usher in an abundance of opportunities for Macau under fresh national strategic plans. As the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area initiative progresses, Macau will see itself further connected with the rest of the world for stronger economic and cultural exchanges. “In order to keep ourselves abreast of the ongoing developments which are most relevant to us, it’s necessary to delve into the ‘One Centre, One Platform’ positioning assigned to Macau by the country,” said Cheng. He also urged the team members in attendance to share with their colleagues the valuable knowledge they acquired from the seminar.

Since 2008, GEG has been sponsoring the GEG Macau Cup – Youth National Education Competition, an annual event organized by the National Conditions Education (Macau) Association, with the goal of deepening local teenagers’ understanding of China’s development and inspiring their patriotism. To mark the tenth anniversary of this event, GEG invited a Macau University of Science and Technology scholar to host a talk on the Greater Bay Area initiative and organized a contest for GEG team members. The winners of that contest embarked upon a trip to Beijing alongside the winners of the GEG Macau Cup.
