GEG Hosts Occupational Safety and Health Roadshow

April 24, 2019 – With its flagship properties Galaxy Macau™ and Broadway Macau™ being the first integrated resorts to receive the OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Certification, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) sees its team members as valuable assets and is committed to maintaining a safe and comfortable work environment. In a bid to promote team members’ occupational safety awareness, GEG recently held its Occupational Health and Safety Roadshow in the back-of-house areas of its properties, where fun-fill games and activities delivered information on workplace safety.

At the Roadshow’s opening ceremony, Mr. Chan Chee Pong, Senior Vice President of Facilities Management of Galaxy Macau, read out the Safety Pledge on behalf of all GEG executives, promising to establish a strong workplace safety culture by incorporating measures such as strengthening communications and identifying potential safety hazards. A signing wall was also set up and team members were invited to sign the pledge, reinforcing the principle that it is every team member’s responsibility to protect workplace safety. At a palace-inspired game booth designed by the Human Resources and Administration Department, team members drew fortune sticks describing occupational safety tips, deepening team members’ understanding of six key safety points in a relaxed and fun fashion.

Over the years, GEG has taken a proactive approach to establishing a sound corporate culture on occupational safety and health through its multi-faceted approaches. In 2015 and 2018 respectively, Galaxy Macau and StarWorld Hotel signed the Occupational Safety and Health Charter, under the witness of Labour Affairs Bureau representatives. In another initiative to support the Macau SAR Government’s measures promoting occupational safety and health, and to lower the risk of work-related injuries and occupational diseases, GEG has rolled out the DSAL Workplace Safety Training Program and aims for all its team members to complete the Program by 2021. At the same time, GEG’s Occupational Safety and Health Committee has implemented a long list of occupational safety measures to provide comprehensive safety protection for all staff, with measures ranging from a potential-hazard reporting system to various occupational protections, such as stair nosings, Gobo projectors projecting on the floor messages to remind team members not to text while walking, as well as cartoon posters on occupational safety and health.

Also focusing on team members’ psychological wellbeing, GEG has co-launched with the Sheng Kung Hui Gambling Counseling and Family Wellness Centre a video on stress management, which is now on display in the back-of-house areas of GEG’s three flagship properties. The video introduces staff to methods of obtaining professional support, such as in-person counseling sessions and through telephone hotline.
