GEG Volunteer Team Extends Care to "Peng On Tung" Users

August 20, 2020 – Believing that it can “make a difference by making a commitment”, Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) has always attended to the needs of society. Immediately following the departure of Typhoon Higos, GEG Volunteer Team contacted the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Services Center (“Peng On Tung”) of the General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macao (“UGAMM”), and paid caring visits to more than 40 household users of the Peng On Tung service. The caring visits will be held over a two-day period (today and tomorrow), during which GEG will present each household with a “Family Care” Kit and arrange team members from its Engineering Department to help inspect the condition of each unit’s water drainage, plumbing, and electricity system, as well as help conduct simple household repairs.

Today, members of the GEG Volunteer Team visited the homes of several single-living elderly users and other users of the “Peng On Tung” service. During the visits, GEG volunteers presented the service users with the Red Cross “Family Care” Kit that the GEG Foundation had donated and introduced the content of the kit, which included face masks, towels and daily necessities such as slippers and raincoats. In addition, the volunteers also spoke with the elderlies about the recent typhoon and their daily lives. During which an elderly user informed GEG volunteers of his birthday. Meanwhile, team members from GEG’s Engineering Department also joined the visits. Leveraging on their expertise, they conveyed love and warmth to the elderlies by helping them perform simple maintenance and repairs on water drainage, plumbing and electricity systems where appropriate. Tomorrow, the GEG Volunteer Team and related team members will continue to head out to different neighborhoods and visit the homes of other users of the “Peng On Tung” service.

Ms. Lam Sut Kam, Peng On Tung’s acting manager, said, “GEG has always paid attention to the needs of Peng On Tung’s service users. Earlier, GEG collaborated with different government departments to specifically arrange typhoon preparedness talks and seminars for Peng On Tung’s elderly service users, so that they can learn more about what they need to do and prepare for typhoons. This time, they contacted us immediately after Typhoon Higos left, to check on how we were doing, as well as whether our center or any of our service users were in need of immediate support, which we are very grateful for.”

Adhering to its philosophy of “what is taken from the community is to be used for the good of the community”, GEG has always proactively offered its help to those in need. Earlier, after Typhoon Nuri hit Macau, GEG volunteers carried out a beach cleaning activity at Hac Sa Beach to help reduce the environmental impact that the typhoon had posed to the beach. In addition, GEG collaborated with the Public Security Police Force of the Macau Special Administrative Region (“SAR”) Government, the Social Welfare Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, and Peng On Tung on organizing an “Emergency Preparedness Talk” on how to evacuate from low-lying areas during major storms and typhoons for more than 60 Peng On Tung users and GEG volunteers. Following the workshop, GEG arranged volunteers to visit the homes of the participating elderly and delivered disaster preparedness “Family Care” kits and other household supplies. Moving forward, GEG will continue to actively fulfill its corporate social responsibilities, offer help to communities in need, and extend its care to the wider community.
