GEG Receives PATA Gold Award for Climate Change Initiative

October 6, 2023Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) is committed to supporting Macau in achieving the dual carbon goals and has been promoting environmental protection and sustainable development through various green and energy conservation measures over the years. Yesterday, GEG garnered a Gold Award for Climate Change Initiative in the Sustainability and Social Responsibility Category for its “Galaxy Entertainment Group Environmental and Sustainability Practices” at the 2023 Pacific Asia Travel Association (“PATA”) Gold Award Ceremony held at New Delhi, India. The accolade is another testament of the tourism industry’s recognition to GEG’s series of green efforts and contributions.

The award-winning “Galaxy Entertainment Group Environmental and Sustainability Practices” encompasses GEG’s major efforts in seven areas: enhancement of energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, reducing carbon emissions, environmental protection, deepening team members’ environmental awareness and climate change impact evaluation. In particular, GEG is dedicated to complying with the international standards of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and the ISO 50001 Energy Management System and establishing an Energy and Environmental Management Committee to drive green implementation into its daily operations, in hopes of reducing carbon footprint, promoting environmental protection through multi-pronged approaches and offering green travel experiences for tourists from all around the world and local residents. Meanwhile, GEG also proactively disseminates the importance of environmental protection to its team members and customers, and encourages them to adopt sustainable green lifestyle practices and contribute to environmental protection.

Throughout the years, GEG has been fulfilling its pledge to protect the environment and facilitate Macau’s sustainable development, with many of its efforts receiving recognitions and certificates from international and professional organizations. In February this year, GEG won the “Sustainability Award” at the prestigious International Gaming Awards. In addition, GEG has become the integrated tourism and leisure enterprise with the most EarthCheck certifications in Macau, the Promenade Shops at Galaxy Macau and the Galaxy International Convention Center have both garnered Gold Certifications for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (“LEED”) from the United States Green Building Council. Multiple hotel brands have also received various Green Hotel Awards organized by the Environmental Protection Bureau and co-organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office of the Macau SAR Government. Moving forward, GEG will continue to uphold its philosophy of “what is taken from the community is to be used for the good of the community”, advance its various environmental protection and energy conservation measures, and support Macau’s development as a livable green city and top tourism destination.
