April 26, 2024 – As a leading integrated tourism and leisure enterprise, Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) has been actively promoting the development of its local and overseas businesses through multi-pronged approaches to support business exchanges and cooperation between Macau and the international community. As one of the largest corporate shareholders of Société Anonyme des Bains de Mer et du Cercle des Étrangers à Monaco (“Monte-Carlo SBM”), a world renowned owner and operator of iconic luxury hotels and resorts in the Principality of Monaco, GEG is also the sole Asian shareholder and the only shareholder based outside of Europe. Last week, GEG was honored to welcome H.E. Ms. Marie-Pascale Boisson, Ambassador of the Principality of Monaco to the People’s Republic of China, along with Mr. Frédéric Genta, Secretary for Attractiveness, Development and Digital Transformation, Principality of Monaco, for their landmark visit to the city, fostering a flurry of meetings and introductions at government, corporate and private levels, and contributing to the establishment of friendly cooperative relations between Macau and Monaco.
In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Monaco next year, Ms. Marie-Pascale Boisson, accompanied by Mr. Frédéric Genta (whose multifaceted role includes overseeing Monaco Private Label (“MPL”), a bespoke government initiative that fosters high-level networking, philanthropy, and investment opportunities), made Macau the first stop of her visit to China. Ms. Boisson respectively visited Mr. Liu Xianfa, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macau SAR, and Mr. André Cheong Weng Chon, Secretary for Administration and Justice of the Macau SAR Government to discuss further cooperation opportunities between Macau and Monaco in the Greater Bay Area. The discussions also included sharing best practices between the two locales, yielding in-depth conversations on such unifying topics as gastronomy, culture and sports events to be held in 2025. Meanwhile, Mr. Francis Lui, Vice Chairman of GEG; Mr. Troy Hickox, GEG’s representative on the board of the Monte Carlo SBM; and Mr. Buddy Lam, Executive Vice President of GEG, also participated in the meetings which fully demonstrated GEG’s active role in leveraging its bridging advantage and efforts to promote communication and cooperation between Macau and Monaco in culture and other related areas for their mutual benefit.
H.E. Ms. Marie-Pascale Boisson, Ambassador of Monaco to the People’s Republic of China, said, “Together Monaco and Macau signal a future with China at its heart, defined by collaboration and mutual respect. As we continue on this journey of friendship with a shared vision, we are delighted to invite our associates across China to celebrate the transformative power of unity and cooperation.” Mr. Frédéric Genta said, “This visit marks a key milestone in the longstanding alliance between Monaco and Macau. As we converge to exchange insights on cultural, technological, and economic fronts, we aim to foster a symbiotic relationship that goes through geographic boundaries and paves the way for future opportunities.” Mr. Francis Lui said, “Through shared ambitions, and collaboration in tourism, technology, gastronomy and the arts, we aim to bring greater awareness of both Macau and Monaco onto the global stage.”
In July 2015, GEG made a strategic investment in Monte-Carlo SBM. Moving forward, GEG will continue to explore a range of international development opportunities with Monte-Carlo SBM and contribute to the continuous exchange and cooperation between China, the Macau SAR and Monaco.
