June 25, 2026 – Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) proactively supports the “dual carbon” goals of the country and the Macau SAR Government through implementing a wide range of initiatives that promote green and sustainable development across its operations. This year, several of GEG’s hotel brands and its MICE facilities once again achieved strong performance under the globally recognized EarthCheck certification program, reinforcing GEG’s position as the integrated tourism and leisure enterprise in Macau with the highest number of most EarthCheck certifications. Among these achievements, Banyan Tree Macau has attained EarthCheck certification for the 10th consecutive year and advanced to Platinum Certification this year, becoming the first hotel in Macau to achieve this distinction. Galaxy Hotel™ was also upgraded to Gold Certification. In addition, Capella at Galaxy Macau, which officially launched this year, together with Raffles at Galaxy Macau, Andaz Macau, Hotel Okura Macau and the Galaxy International Convention Center, were all awarded EarthCheck Silver Certification. These accomplishments underscore GEG’s continued leadership and excellence in advancing green development and sustainable operations.
Earlier, GEG hosted an EarthCheck Certificates Presentation Ceremony at Banyan Tree Macau. Distinguished guests in attendance included Ms. Leong Mei Choi, Head of Training and Quality Management Department of Macao Government Tourism Office; Mr. Dennis Ng, Acting Head of Environmental Planning and Assessment Department of Environmental Protection Bureau of the Macau SAR Government (“DSPA”); Dr. Natasha Montesalvo, Principal Consultant – Destination, Strategy and Insight of EarthCheck; Mr. Stuart Deeson, Senior Vice President of Hotel of Galaxy Macau™; Mr. Benny Mu, Senior Vice President of Facilities Management of Galaxy Macau; Mr. Edmond Lam, Assistant Vice President of MICE Operations of GEG; and Mr. Justin Li, Assistant Vice President of Sustainability and Technical Services of Galaxy Macau, among others.
In her speech, Dr. Natasha Montesalvo said, “Sustainability has become an important foundation of today’s tourism industry. The EarthCheck certifications achieved across GEG’s various hotel brands and facilities demonstrate that its environmental management and sustainability practices meet international standards. These milestones also reflect GEG’s continued progress in advancing sustainable development, setting a strong benchmark for the industry.” Mr. Stuart Deeson said in his speech, “GEG’s receipt of multiple internationally recognized EarthCheck certifications, including Macau’s first Platinum Certification, serves as a strong endorsement of our longstanding commitment to sustainability and green operations. Looking ahead, we will continue to leverage innovative technologies and systematic management to drive our low-carbon transition, contributing to the development of a greener Macau.”
GEG has consistently integrated environmental principles into its daily operations and implemented a wide range of green initiatives across multiple levels. These include pioneering the “Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastic” initiative, under which all hotels within the Galaxy Macau integrated resort have fully adopted bamboo amenities and large-capacity dispensers, replacing more than 22 million plastic items annually. GEG is also the first integrated tourism and leisure enterprise in Macau to implement a circular upcycling model for landscape resource management. In collaboration with a local environmental technology SME, GEG recycles and repurposes landscape resources generated across GEG’s properties, transforming them into display materials used in hotel and MICE services, promoting the development of a local circular green economy. In addition, GEG actively participated in the “National Event on World Environment Day 2026 and Beautiful China Promotion Week (Macau)”, organized by the DSPA and co-organized by environmental authorities across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. Through initiatives such as donating proceeds from its plastic bag fee and supporting energy-saving campaigns including “Lights Off for One Hour” and “Dress Light ∙ Save Energy”, GEG continues to promote low-carbon lifestyle within the community. In support of United Nations World Oceans Day on June 8, GEG also participated in the Fifth Sustainable SEAFood Festival organized by the Hong Kong Sustainable Seafood Coalition. Moving forward, GEG will continue to support Macau’s development into a liveable green city through concrete and sustained actions.
