GEG Launches Macau SAR Anniversary Celebration Events with 2019 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon Carnival

November 24, 2019—Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) held the opening ceremony today for the 2019 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon Carnival at Broadway Food Street, Broadway Macau™. Through marathon-themed game booths, delicacies and singing and dance performances, the seven-day carnival (open November 24 to 30) will allow runners from around the world, residents and travelers to have a taste of the citywide excitement in advance of Macau’s annual marathon. This serves as a diversified approach to sharing the jubilation of the 20th anniversary of the Macau SAR and showcasing the city’s charm as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. The opening ceremony of the carnival was officiated by a number of honorable guests, including Mr. Pun Weng Kun, President of the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government; Mr. Ma Iao Hang, Chairman of the General Association of Athletics of Macau; Mr. Francis Lui, Vice Chairman of GEG; Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of GEG and Mr. Lau Cho Un and Ms. Lam Lin Kio, Vice Presidents of the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government.

With the carnival incorporating an array of elements, from sports and gastronomy to entertainment, GEG invited runners and social media influencers to share their experiences of preparation for the Macao International Marathon at the opening ceremony. The occasion also featured a live beatbox performance by the second runner-up from Galaxy Got Talent, as well as kids’ Latin dance. Additionally, there were face painting and interactive singing and dance performances, which attracted the participation of many families – both residents and travelers – and livened up the jovial atmosphere. After officiating the ceremony, the honorable guests visited a photo exhibition on the mezzanine floor of Broadway Macau, covering previous editions of the Macao International Marathon to recap the development of the event. The guests also visited the collection point of number bibs and timing chips.

Mr. Pun Weng Kun, President of the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government, remarked, “Entering the 38th edition, the Macao International Marathon is now one of the major sporting events in Macau and has received long-time support from local participants and runners across the world. It not only provides impetus to the sports culture in Macau, but also enhances the cohesion and diversified development of the society. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to GEG for the continued support to the Macao International Marathon, and to the participants for their love of this event.”

Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of GEG, said, “Since early this year, GEG has employed a diversified approach to collaborating with various social service institutions to organize and support a wide range of celebration events for the 20th anniversary of the Macau SAR. Through activities like the Marathon Carnival and the GEG Handover Cup, we hope to spice up the carnival vibe of the Marathon together with the community and encourage the public to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the handover in a healthy and energetic way.”
