Mr. Francis Lui Awarded Order of Arts and Letters

March 10, 2021 – Mr. Francis Lui, Vice Chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”), received the insignia of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters from the French Government for his contribution in promoting the arts and culture of France. Throughout the years, Mr. Lui has actively supported Macau’s arts and culture, recreation and sports development by continually exploring and introducing different culture, arts and sports offerings to Macau’s tourism industry and facilitating the city’s diversification.

Recently, an honouring ceremony was held by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau at the Intercontinental Grand Stanford Hotel in Hong Kong. At the ceremony, Mr. Francis Lui was decorated with the insignia from Mr. Alexandre Giorgini, the Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau. Mr. Giorgini thanked Mr. Lui, who is an ambassador of the Paris Opera, for his contribution in attracting people’s attention to the arts and culture of France and promoting the cultural relations between France and the local communities.

The Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) was established in 1957 by the Minister of Culture of France to recognize eminent artists and writers, as well as people who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world. The Order is recognized as France’s highest cultural honour and is made up of three ranks, namely, Commander, Officer and Knight.

Committed to the sustainable development of Macau’s tourism industry, GEG endeavours to help establish Macau as a multi-cultural base for the exchange and cooperation of different initiatives that fosters the development of cultural, arts, recreation and sports. In 2019, GEG and the Grimaldi Forum Monaco signed a cultural memorandum of understanding, and hosted the exhibition “GRACE KELLY: From Hollywood to Monaco – Artists' Tributes” in support of “Art Macao”, a mega international arts and cultural event organized by the Macau SAR Government. In addition, GEG supported The Monte-Carlo Ballet’s performances in Macau. GEG Foundation also rolled out different initiatives aimed at facilitating the development of arts and culture, including the GEG Arts & Cultural Initiative, the GEG Intangible Cultural Heritage Scheme and the GEG Chinese Music Promotion Scheme.
