GEG Launches “Energy and Environmental Conservation Month” Campaign to Promote Green Initiatives to Team Members

November 21, 2023 Galaxy Entertainment Group (“GEG”) recently launched a series of activities under its “Energy and Environmental Conservation Month” (“EEC Month”) campaign to proactively promote green initiatives to its team members, in hopes of echoing the Macau SAR Government’s environmental protection policies. Through seminars by the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Macau SAR Government (“DSPA”) and Hong Kong’s social enterprise Green Monday, “Green Monday” sustainable eating activity, informative displays and games, the campaign has helped enhance knowledge and raise awareness of climate change and environmental protection among team members.

As the first activity of the EEC Month, GEG invited Mr. Wong Kai Man, Acting Head of the Division of Environmental Publicity and Education of DSPA, to give a detailed introduction to team members on Macau’s environmental protection, energy conservation and emission reduction, as well as waste reduction at source. Mr. Benny Mu, Senior Vice President of Facilities Management of Galaxy Macau™, and several other management team members attended. Mr. Wong Kai Man explained the National and Macau’s “dual carbon goals”, as well as Macau’s implementation efforts in this area. He also shared information on Macau’s various environmental protection initiatives, thereby encouraging GEG team members to actively fulfill their environmental responsibilities, reduce waste and carbon footprint, and to live more sustainably.

In addition, GEG also invited Mr. Ryan Lee, Associate Director of Business Development of Green Monday Hong Kong, a social enterprise that promotes low-carbon lifestyle culture, to introduce climate change and food security to members of GEG’s Energy and Environmental Management Committee. He also talked about benefits that green eating and low-carbon lifestyle habits have on the environment, businesses and individuals to deepen their related knowledge. Meanwhile, GEG also offered a variety of sustainable food options in its staff restaurants during the “Green Monday” event, and showcased environmental information through display boards and interactive games set-up in the back-of-house area, all of which has received enthusiastic participation and support from team members.

Throughout the years, GEG has stayed true to its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. To enhance the energy and environmental awareness of its team members, GEG has been organizing promotional campaigns around these themes for eight consecutive years, and has extended the duration of campaigns to one month. GEG has also received many environmental awards and energy efficiency certifications from various professional organizations in recognition of its green contributions. In October this year, GEG garnered a Gold Award for Climate Change Initiative in the Sustainability and Social Responsibility Category for its “Galaxy Entertainment Group Environmental and Sustainability Practices” from the Pacific Asia Travel Association; in February, GEG won the “Sustainability Award” at the International Gaming Awards. Multiple hotel brands have also received various Green Hotel Awards organized by DSPA and co-organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office of the Macau SAR Government. Moving forward, GEG will continue to encourage its team members to actively support environmental protection, and contribute to Macau’s development as a liveable green city and top tourism destination.
